Dear Mariners, the winter season is over and our success is
stunning! We ended the season with more than 80 registered
swimmers. 46 of those swimmers qualified for the tristate
championships which we won by quite a comfortable margin, we scored
100 more points then last year. In 2 divisions we swept the high
point trophies and in 4 more divisions we had 2 of the 3
places.
At Midwesterns we nearly doubled our previous point total
finishing5th overall out of 21 teams
in the 12 and under division, 8th
over all when combining the 13 and over with the 12 and unders. We
had the highest point average per splash of all the teams
represented. We had state records in 2 states, Taylor
Sieperda in the 50 Free in Iowa and Alizah Wink in the 200 Back in
Nebraska. Alizah also swept her events for High point at
Midwesterns. While Araceli Topete finished 3rd in high point for
9-10 girls she swam the39th fastest
time in the nation in the 100 free for 9-10 girls and she has all
summer to better it! Quincy Markham, Eli Mollet, Yovani Topete,
Andrew Pham, Connor Love, Jordan Stalheim, Albert Pham, Andrew
Oberg, Blake Kakacek all contributing on the boys side with Quincy,
Eli and Connor taking top fives in several races. The girls were
equally impressive with Lindsay Stalheim, Maggie Oberg (our first
summer broken arm winner of the year again this year, send her your
condolences....actually send them to her mother...) Alma Topete,
Madison Sieperda, Caroline Oberg, Claire Kipp and Frankie Grijalva
all substantially contributing to the cause.
The 13 and overs did very well also with every swimmer
contributing points and many high quality swims.Kaija Bergdale,
Taylor Sieperda, Abbey Speck, Ashley Vondrak and Samantha Vondrak
represented us on the girls side and Alex Guelcher, Will
Jesse, Fisher Mollet and Noah Mollet on the boys side. This is the
first year we were able to field relays as well as a solid core of
swimmers to the "senior meet" and our swimmers performed
exceptionally well against the field.
While the season was over for most Mariner's 10 swimmers
continued on to the Regional meet in Minneapolis where our
excellence continued. While we looked at the regional meet as a
"vacation" meet the kids swam very well. We returned from the meet
with 3 high point trophies a 1st (Taylor Sieperda) , a 2nd (Alizah
Wink) and a 3rd (Araceli Topete), one meet record and a 11th
place team finish (with no relays) in field of 77
teams!!!! As we move into the summer season our trajectory is still
very strong, we will continue to have a bigger impact on regional
swimming, as of this date we already have 6 swimmers qualified for
Zones, doubling our previous best showing. The Mariners are now
represented in 4!!! states as a family from Minnesota recently
enrolled with the Mariner's. We continue to represent our
communities with excellence, the next 3 years promise to be very
exciting!!!! GO MARINERS!!!!
